A Design Guide has been produced by a leading firm of heritage architects on behalf of the Thurloe Owners & Leaseholders Association (TOLA), working closely with the Anstruther Estate Management Scheme (EMS). It sets out how any construction work – including alterations, repairs or maintenance – should be approached to ensure the historic character of the area is preserved.

The guide brings together established principles for adapting buildings with detailed design advice for each terrace and house type within The Anstruther Kensington Estate. Before beginning any design work, please share this document with your appointed architect, designer or contractor.

We have also worked closely with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to ensure the guidelines reflect the borough’s own conservation and heritage objectives. If a proposal follows the Design Guide, RBKC will take this into account when considering planning or listed building consent applications.

The Estate Management Scheme requires that any proposed changes are reviewed before works begin. Please contact South Kensington Estate and the Estate Architect in advance of any works to obtain EMS consent.

Our office is located within the heart of the Estate, allowing the team to provide a personal, on-site service for both residential and commercial customers.
