Brompton Quarter welcomes SKANDIUM, January 2007     1st January 2007

Modern Scandinavian design arriving in Knightsbridge Brompton Estates is pleased to welcome SKANDIUM, the Scandinavian lifestyle shop, to the Brompton Quarter, Knightsbridge. The new London flagship shop will be situated at 245 -249 Brompton Road, the two-floor, 698 sq m highly visible retail unit on the Brompton Road. The former ‘Cargo’ shop will be transformed into a contemporary retail space revealing all kinds of modern Scandinavian design.

The signing is a significant endorsement for the re-invigoration of the Brompton Quarter into a design-led retail destination, placed conveniently between Armani in Knightsbridge and B&B Italia in Brompton Cross. SKANDIUM, who are hoping to open in August 2007, will perfectly complement their neighbouring retailers in the Brompton Quarter and Brompton Cross, including: Smallbone of Devizes, Divertimenti, the Conran shop, Joseph and the restaurants Racine and Bibendum. Magnus Englund, Director of SKANDIUM, explains why he chose the Brompton Quarter for the London flagship shop:

“The proximity to the V&A and Brompton Cross puts us at the centre of the Chelsea-Kensington area we wanted to reach, while the building with its high ceilings and large windows makes it possible to create a truly beautiful flagship shop. Being part of the development of Brompton Quarter is certainly an added bonus.”

The first SKANDIUM shop opened in 1999 on Wigmore Street in central London. The company was then invited to open a large shop-in-shop at the famous department store Selfridges in 2001. SKANDIUM has also developed relationships with architects, interior designers and contractors by supplying products to small and large projects. David Sanderson of CWM retail experts advises why SKANDIUM is the perfect choice for the Brompton Quarter:

“This store is probably the most prominent within Brompton Quarter, with a corner position facing towards Brompton Cross. Securing an aspirational homewares accessories retailer such as Skandium will help draw footfall from and create synergies with Brompton Cross and the rest of Knightsbridge”

The Brompton Quarter comprises more than 400 metres of single-managed retail and restaurant units, owned by the property investment and development company, Brompton Estates.
